Commonwealth Games on time, on budget

Following a recent tour of venues, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said key planning milestones are being met with the Games set to inject billions into the economy, support thousands of jobs and delivers benefits now and into the future. Key milestones achieved include: Completion of all venues, with the $550 million Village on track for completion this year. Queensland Police Service working with other authorities for a security force of more than 10,000 people including the Australian Army and AFP. Transport Operations Plan finalized with timetable to be released months ahead of the Games. Tourism Minister Kate Jones said with around 1.5 million spectators expected to attend, she wants to make sure all athletes, coaching staff, spectators and tourists have a great time and promote Queensland as a brilliant holiday destination. “There will also be chances across the state for Queenslanders to become involved with Festival 2018 events in the event cities of Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns,” she said.
